ECHM COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 The European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine has, during the last decade, become a common referral for state-of-the-art hyperbaric medicine practice and guidelines in Europe as well as internationally. This volume is intended to be the first one of a series, hence the name ECHM Collection, and covers the action of the ECHM since its inception. The multifaceted production of the ECHM will this way be more readily available to the international scientific community. The categories included are listed below and will give the reader a more comprehensive idea of the detail described in this new title. Over 60 contributors include internationally known members of the hyperbaric and diving medical communities. Categories Include: History; Goals of ECHM; Structure of ECHM; ECHM Indications for HBOT; Acute Indications for HBOT-- Decompression Illness; Classification of Diving Accidents; Recompression Treatment; HBO Therapy; Infections, Reperfusion, Traumatic Edema, Bone Hypoxia, Diabetic Foot; Oxygenation & Healing Disorders; Wound Care; Hyperbaric Chambers; Standards, Fire Suppression, Staff Requirements, Certification; Research in HBO-10 year survey Reviews: The ECHM Collection represents a valuable addition to my library and is recommended to those who practice or support the discipline of hyperbaric medicine. For the past decade, the European hyperbaric community, through the auspices of its European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine, has worked cohesively and intelligently to define best practice standards. The results are impressive, yet the proceedings and reports that chronicle their recommended standards are increasingly difficult to acquire, particularly with the passage of time. That these works have been compiled into a single edition is enormously helpful. The extent and depth of the material is unmatched in a single edition. The ECHM Collection, Volume 1 is intended to provide us with a more comprehensive idea of a multifaceted, multi-lingual and extremely variegated reality, such as the European scene of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in starting a valuable "Collection" of remarkable manuscripts from devoted hyperbaric specialists. This volume, edited by three luminaries in hyperbaric medicine, Alessandro Marroni, Daniel Mathieu and Francis Wattel, fills a huge void in the retrievable European literature and it supplies not only key papers but thousands of references. When teaching, preparing slides or writing papers, you will be glad to have it on your book shelf! |
